In the remote village of Dasht in the Zilol neighborhood of Oltiariq district, residents have established greenhouses on their household plots, generating significant income. This area, once barren and without water, has been transformed through hard work into a source of livelihood. Today, 160 households are engaged in growing cucumbers and tomatoes year-round. The introduction of drip irrigation has greatly enhanced productivity.
Currently, the neighborhood is home to three cooperatives focused on viticulture and greenhouse farming. The Governor of the region, Khayrullo Bozorov, along with regional sector heads, visited the households to observe their daily activities.
Sayfiddin Mahibullaev, who returned from migration, secured a loan of 30 million soums to establish two greenhouses on his plot. During the spring season, he earned 60 million soums from cucumbers, and he is now growing tomatoes in his greenhouses, expecting to make at least 80 million soums in profit. The regional governor inspected his greenhouse and highlighted that for those who understand the business, household plots can be a major source of income.
Akhrorjon Ibragimov built a greenhouse on a 900-square-meter plot, harvesting cucumbers and tomatoes twice a year, with an average income of 120 million soums. In addition to this, he also grows grapes.
Sukhrob Rustamov, meanwhile, has established a greenhouse on a 3,000-square-meter plot, employing 15 local youth. His tomatoes are currently being grown not only for the domestic market but also for export to neighboring countries. According to him, his business will generate around 200 million soums in revenue.
The regional governor instructed district sector heads to expand the greenhouse model to other families in order to increase household incomes and promote this successful initiative throughout the district.
